SUMMARY
The house mouse is believed to be widely distributed throughout the islands although there is only one recent and one historical record and NBN Gateway.
The house mice on St Kilda were recognised as a separate subspecies, Mus musculus muralis but the population became extinct a few years after the island was evacuated in 1930. There are no confirmed recent records of house mice in the islands although Stewart Angus makes reference to house mice on the machair (The Outer Hebrides. Moor and Machair 2001).
