Myrmeleotettix maculatus (Mottled Grasshopper)
General description:
Found from Vatersay to Berneray the mottled grasshopper is the most common and widely distributed of the three species recorded in the Outer Hebrides.
Diagnostic description:
This is a very variable species with 12 recognised colour forms. However, the clubbed antennae of males and thickened antennal tips of females are distinctive, both lack white tips. The side keels of the pronotum are deeply indented.
