SUMMARY
A large distinctive species widely recorded in Scotland, it was not recorded in the Outer Hebrides until 2010. It has only been seen at one site in South Uist which may be indicative of a lack of suitable habitat. The larvae live as scavengers in the nests of social wasps and the limited availability of hosts may also restrict the distribution of this species in the islands.
