Ammodytes tobianus (Lesser Sand-eel)
General description:
Sand eels, are very important food source for many of Scotlands seabirds, particularly the puffin. Sand-eel populations previously declined due to commercial fishing pressure but are now considered to be struggling to recover in some areas due to the impact of climate change on their synchrony with plankton blooms.
