Chiroptera (Bats)
General description:
There is currently no definitive information on the status of bats in the Outer Hebrides. There are records of pipistrelles, but only anedotal information with respect to the presence of breeding colonies.
Other species of bats have only been recorded as vagrants. There is a record of a brown long-eared bat Plecotus auritus recorded on North Uist c.1900 and more recently a record of a Nyctalus species from South Uist in 2008.
