Aeshna juncea (Common Hawker)
General description:
A common and widespread species found in moorland habitats with acidic pools.
Diagnostic description:
A dark dragonfly, the males have blue and yellow marking on the abdomen. The females are similar, brown with yellow markings, although the abdominal markings can be green or blue. This latter form being more common in Scotland. The bright yellow costa is diagnostic.
