Cordulegaster boltonii (Golden-ringed Dragonfly)
General description:
This is a rare species in the Outer Hebrides; the records for South Uists and Barra are all pre-1941. In addition there are two records for Lewis from 1959 and one from 2009.
Diagnostic description:
It is striking, black insect with yellow rings along the length of the abdomen. The female is the UK's longest dragonfly because of her long ovipositor.
