Lestes sponsa (Emerald Damselfly)
General description:
This is a scarce species in the islands, with only a handful of recent records from Lewis, Barra and South Uist. The records from North Uist and Harris are all pre-1960. It is possible that this is an under-recorded species or has restricted distribution.
Diagnostic description:
This metallic green damselfly rests with its wings spread at about 45 degrees to the body, unlike the other damselflies which close the wings along the body.
