Pyrrhosoma nymphula (Large Red Damselfly)
General description:
A common and widespread species.
Diagnostic description:
Readily identifiable as the only large red and black damselfly found in the islands and separated from the Small Red Damselfly (found in southern England and Wales) by its black legs and yellow or red broad antehumeral stripe. The females have three colour forms which display varying amounts of black on the abdomen.
