Syrphus ribesii
General description:
Common and widespread, often abundant in gardens with a long flight season.
Diagnostic description:
Care is required to distinguish this species from S. torvus and S. vitripennis. In females the yellow hind femora is distinctive, males are more difficult to identify requiring a close look at the eyes, hind femur and basal wing cells.
