Melanostoma dubium
General description:
There is some debate whether Melanostoma dubium is a species or an altitudinal variant of M. mellinum (MacGowan et al. 1997).
It is characteristically an upland species found at 500-1000 m often around boggy ground near small streams. It has been recorded in South Uist, but under recording, especially in upland areas makes its status uncertain.
Diagnostic description:
For a description of the diagnostic characteristics Stubbs and Falk (2002) should be consulted as there is not a full description in Ball and Morris (2015)
