Rhingia campestris
General description:
Common and widely distributed. The distinctive long rostrum which houses the proboscis enables this small hoverfly to feed on species with deep corollas.
Diagnostic description:
The long "nose" is characteristic of this genus. R. campestris is generally darker, with a longer rostrum (nose) and a darker edge to the rostrum than R. rostrata which has a more southerly distribution.
