SUMMARY
This is a rare UK priority conservation species that is still locally common on the machair grassland of the Outer Hebrides. It requires large expanses of natural and semi-natural grassland with a high density of flowering legumes, particularly common bird's-foot trefoil and red clover; stands of common knapweed are also important. Areas of tussocky, taller grasses are important as nesting sites.
