SUMMARY
The common carder bee (Bombus pascuorum) has been recorded in the Outer Hebrides since 2013. Identification can be very difficult in the field, unless the black patches on the sides of the abdomen are well-developed. Pale specimens, which occur with greater frequency towards the north, require very careful examination. It is therefore possible that this species has been under-recorded.
