Andrena tarsata (Tormentil Mining Bee)
General description:
The tormentil mining bee is nationally scarce and a priority conservation species in the UK and Scotland.
Its status in the Outer Hebrides is uncertain. It is rarelt recorded although there is an abundance of suitable habitat, therefore it is possible that the climate is unsuitable. So far this species has only be recorded in South Uist and Barra

Diagnostic description:
Andrena tarsata specialise on the pollen of Potentilla species as food for their larvae. Although females are almost always seen on Potentilla, a number of other solitary bees will also feed there, including some small black species.
Local Distribution:
