Anoplius nigerrimus
General description:
One of the spider hunting wasps. Unlike the other species in this genus, Anoplius nigerrimus is usually found in dry grassy habitats. Widespread in Britain and Ireland, it has only been recorded in the southern islands of the Outer Hebrides. Curtrently this is the only species of Pompilidae to the recorded in the islands.
Diagnostic description:
Adult spider wasps are easy to identify as they spend most of their time running erractically over the ground with wings and antennae vibrating.
