Ophion obscuratus
General description:
This species is one of the most common species of Ichneumonidae found in the Uists. It is reported to have three generations and parasitises lepidopteran larvae.
Diagnostic description:
Ophion obscuratus is identified by pale corners of the 'stigma' (the dark mark on the leading edge of the forewing) and the distinctive pale marks on the top of the thorax. Many species of Ophion are morphologically similar therefore field identification is difficult.
