Tenthredo arcuata
Tenthredo arcuata is one of the three species of Tenthredo sawflies which are difficult to distinguish and often "lumped" as T. arcuata aggregate. Of the three species grouped together only T. arcuata and T. brevicornis have been recorded in the Outer Hebrides.
One of the brightly coloured yellow and black sawflies often found on the flower rich pastures in the Outer Hebrides, often on umbellifers. The nocturnal larva graze the leaves of white clover (Trifolium repens)
Similar to several other Tenthredo species. The abdomen is banded with greeny-yellow and black and wings that are slightly shaded brown with a long brown stigma along the edge. Length 8 to 11 mm.
