SUMMARY
This family includes species which breed in the islands and over-winter as either pupae or adults and species, such as the red admiral and painted lady which breed but the populations are maintained by migrants. Some of the species are common, such as the meadow brown, whilst others such as the grayling, ringlet and speckled wood have more restricted distributions.
