Nomenclature
-
Family: Tenthredinidae (Sawflies)
Species:
Pontania
SUMMARY
Sawflies of the genus Pontania (Eupontania) cause closed galls in leaves mainly in willows (Salix).
Waterston (1981) notes that four species of Pontania have been recorded from galls on willows, but that only two species have been confirmed by breeding. There are no records of P. bridgmanii or P. proxima from the Outer Hebrides that we are currently aware of.
