Maniola jurtina (Meadow Brown)
General description:
The meadow brown is the most abundant butterfly species seen both on coastal and inland in a variety of habitats throughout the Outer Hebrides from June to September.
Diagnostic description:
The combination of relatively large size, orange patches on the forewings only, one eyespot on the forewing and none at all on the hindwings, is unique to the Meadow Brown.
